Sad news, Bud Stout our founder passed away.
There were table tennis players in the Villages since the beginning. But in 2006 Bud Stout realized there was a problem. No one knew the names of all the players, there was no organization, no way to share information. So he did something about it. "Actually, I didn't even know I was starting a club. One day someone said, 'Bud, it looks like you are starting a club.'". The rest is history. The Villages Table Tennis Club owes its existence to Bud. He will be missed. Bud left us a few words about his life. villages-news.com/2023/08/23/bud-stout Please share your stories about Bud just hit comments.

Bud had one of the greatest lines I have ever heard. I hit what I thought was a pretty good shot to his forehand and he crushed it for a clean winner. I looked at him and he said,"When you hit it there, you become a spectator!" Classic Bud; great TT player but a much better man

I first met Bud when I attended the club session. He coached me for free. He set up the robot. He even trained me so I could use the robot anytime. He did this after playing in the morning, even though he might have been tired, because he felt it was important to help others enjoy table tennis.

It is the saddest news on of the passing of Bud Stout. After founding TableTennis in the Villages, Bud was president for at least 10 years.

When we bought house at 2008, I came to Laurel Manor first time to play TT, I didn’t know anyone and Bud Stout was happy to introduce some players. He was active, smiling and told me many things about TT club. I met his wife Nancy and was at their house to see beautiful colorful roses.

Bud was a great guy and a pretty good player. He got us started to form a Table Tennis Club. He was the president for a long time. He always kept us informed of up coming events and news. Sometimes too much news but we survived.

Bud loved table tennis & gladly welcomed new players. As President of the club he chaired our gatherings 4 times a year I especially remember the dance performance on stage with several other costumed members at one of our gatherings. Bud started the tradition of ice cream party in April, Independence Day celebration in June, pizza party in Sept, & potluck dinner in December. He emceed each gathering & Nancy brought beautiful rosé bouquets centerpieces from their garden. He also took photos at each gathering & posted them for everyone to view. A big thank you to Bud & Nancy for all they did for so many of us

Bud was the President of the Table Tennis Club when i first joined in 2006. I fondly remember all the sunday noontime meetings where new members were introduced, acknowledged , and lots of ice cream socials, pizza parties, Christmas buffets and more and more. Nancy would always bring her roses as centerpieces and we would offer them to persons in need of cheer. I still have my "Energizer Bunny" Certificate as Coach received from Bud given to me September of 2015.

I started playing table tennis (TT) three years ago. Most fortunately, I met Bud my first month of playing TT. Bud was immediately very helpful to me. I realized Bud was both a skilled player and luckily for me a provider of excellent information and patient guidance. Bud very smartly would provide me with guidance while doing various physical drills. He was keenly aware when I had achieved a satisfactory physical skill level and understanding of the required performance. Axiomatically, he would adroitly move me to the next TT skill he thought I needed to learn. Bud continued the above described scenario with me until he no longer possessed the health to continue.

Bud was my favorite person to play table tennis with because of the banter, the intermixed coaching, and the great fun of the games themselves. He was also one of my favorite people to discuss books with. An avid reader of historical fiction, he summed up his appreciation for the genre with, “When I read something, I want to learn something.”

I had researched table tennis at both of the retirement locations I chose in 2008. So if Bud had not started the club here a couple of years earlier, I easily could have wound up somewhere else.
